Sans Serif Sign Painted Letters with the Brush (beginners)

There is little that outshines beautiful hand painted well-spaced block letters. This class is for those who love beautiful clean well-spaced block letters and want to kickstart their knowledge of well loved sans serif type through the calligraphy of the brush.  The class will provide you with a type designers  perspective. Helping you learn to write clean words with a brush focussing on spacing and shape commencing with easier foundation alphabets. This practical class because will help you relax and breathe as one with the brush. Excellent results were achieved with our 2017 and 2018 type program students with the class using proven teaching methods gleaned in my recent studies in the United States. Using the brush you will explore a range of early 20th century alphabets to better understand their construction and relationship to hand painted signpainter's letters.

What's included

Brush, paint and substrate are all included in the class price. If you want to purchase a brush for continued use, brushes will be available for purchase.

For complete beginners, this class is expertly devised to fast track your flat brush skills and understanding of typography. Suitable for graphic designers who want to better understand type by learning on the brush, or for aspiring Signwriters. It’s all about letterform literacy without the mess of turpentine. The class uttilises a proven teaching strategy to fast track your confidence with the brush and awareness of how different sans serif alphabets are constructed

In this course we’ll discuss the basics of calligraphy and how this relates to some of the well known typefaces that you use every day. You will also learn about contrast in letterforms while you enjoy getting hands-on with a flat brush. This is a great way kickstart your signpainting, calligraphy and typography knowledge!
